The Brock Badgers men's basketball team fell 87-66 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday, Jan. 26 in Thunder Bay.
Fourth-year forward Jordan Tchuente led the Badgers with a double-double, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds. First-year point guard Thierry Tshibola led the team with six assists.
The first points of the game were recorded by Tchuente, who was able to hit down a three off a pass from fifth-year guard Jevon Brown. The Thunderwolves built a substantial lead in the opening quarter, but a layup from Davante Hackett cut the lead down to 11 points.
A string of points from Andrew McKenna, including a physical battle in the paint helped the Badgers reduce the Thunderwolves' lead to just seven points in the middle of the second quarter. Late in the frame, Brown was able to find second-year point guard Xavier Fearon who had plenty of space to drain a three-pointer from behind the arc. However, the Thunderwolves continued their momentum and held a double-digit lead at half.
The third quarter opened with the Badgers coming out strong, putting them just four points behind Lakehead just a minute in. Multiple successful layups at the rim from Tchuente attempted to keep Brock in the mix, but Lakehead's advantage continued to remain at 11 after 30 minutes of play.
To start the fourth frame, the Badgers received a layup from Marlon Lestin, reducing the lead to nine. A couple of layups from Lakehead helped them retake a double-digit advantage and they did not look back, ultimately winning 87-66.
