Badgers win big at home against Ridgebacks

The Brock Badgers women's basketball team won in commanding fashion 87-35 over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday Jan. 20 at Canada Games park.

This was the Badgers sixth consecutive win as they have played fantastic since the start of the new year.

First-year guard Brookelyn Keltos had her best game as a Badger to date. The St. Catharines native totalled 16 points, four three-pointers, three rebounds, one block and one steal. Madalyn Weinert also had a strong game posting her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

The Badgers came out on fire from behind the arc in this one. Brock hit five three-pointers in the opening frame, which led to them establishing a comfortable lead early. Elite shooting paired with some emphatic blocks on the defensive end had the Badgers leading 24-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Brock offence kept the momentum rolling into the second, as they continued to make outside shots at a high rate. Junior forward Allison Addy hit two out of her three first-half three-pointers in the frame, which helped Brock extend their lead. Brock also kept the defensive pressure high, as they forced a number of turnovers which led to easy transition buckets. The Badgers led 48-17 at the half.

The second half was a lot more of the same as the Badgers continued to dominate. Ontario Tech struggled to get open shots all night as Brock's defence was on point with their on-ball pressure and quick rotations. The offence kept it rolling as well with Keltos draining threes and others chipping in en route to the convincing win.

Next up, the Badgers (11-4) make the long trek up north on Friday Jan. 26 to face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves (4-11) with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. You can watch the game on OUA.tv.
