Second-year goalie Will Hambley faced a parade of shots, making 38 saves on 42 shots in the loss.
In an action-packed first period, the Badgers took an early 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game, thanks to Sims with his second goal of the regular season but trailed 3-1 after the first 20 minutes.
Into the second period, the Badgers caught their stride as Stock picked up his second point of the game with a goal to tie it at 3-3.
Almost halfway through the third period, Western's Owen Saye scored to put the Mustangs back on top 4-3. Shortly after, Stringer came through to help send the game to overtime.
In the shootout, Brock scored one goal scored by Sims compared to Western's two.
Brock finished the game with 40 shots, with a game-high 17 in the second period.
