The Brock Badgers women's hockey team came up short in their season opener.

Brock left the Carleton Ice House with a 5-2 loss after a battle with Carleton on Friday, Oct. 11 2024. 

Trailing 1-0 at the beginning of the second period, first-year defence Sydney Hood notched her first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal while on the power play. 

The Badgers got another special teams chance with Madelyn Walsh making no mistake and putting Brock up 2-1 halfway through the second period. 

Carleton wouldn't go down without a fight and quickly scored two of their own to give them a 3-2 lead into the third. 

Another two goals in the final frame saw the game end 5-2 for the Ravens. 

Hood had a solid performance in her OUA debut, finishing with one goal and one assist while Walsh also ended the game with a goal and assist.

Second-year goalie Ava Cruikshank was the netminder for Brock, stopping 31 of the 36 shots she faced. 

A matchup on the road against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, making their return to the OUA for the first time since 2000-2001 when they won bronze, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. and is available to watch on OUA.tv.
