Brock comfortably picked up its first win of the season.
The Brock Badgers women's hockey team was victorious in their home opener against the No. 4 nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues, winning 5-1 on Thursday, Oct. 31 at Canada Games Park.
Fourth-year forward Madison Cronkwright led the Badgers in points in the contest, scoring a goal and recording two assists.
After intercepting a breakout pass from Toronto, Randyll Strongman gave Brock an early 1-0 lead on a backhanded shot just under two minutes into the contest, which stood as the only goal of the first period.
After Toronto had tied the game midway through the second frame, two goals 15 seconds apart from Allison Moore and Ella Krushelnicki late in the period put the Badgers up 3-1.
Continuing to carry the momentum, Brock added two power-play markers in the third period, with Cronkwright and Sydney Hood finding the back of the net to put the game firmly out of reach.
Kennedy Lonson had the start between the pipes, stopping 15 shots in what was the first-year goaltender's first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) win.
Brock bested Toronto in the shot department, putting up 19 to the visitors' 16.
Next, the Brock Badgers women's hockey team host the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m at Canada Games Park. The action will be live on OUA.tv or you can find your tickets at https://brocku.universitytickets.com/w/. Last time out against the Warriors, the Badgers fell 4-2 on the road in Waterloo on Feb. 2, 2024.
