No. 8 Badgers take down Mustangs on Senior Day

In their 2024 Senior Day, the No. 8 Brock Badgers women's rugby team defeated the Western Mustangs in front of a buzzing Alumni Field.

The strong showing, highlighted by their defensive resilience, resulted in Brock coming out victorious by a score of 15-7 on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Graduating seniors Paige DeNeve and Matalyn Lee both recorded five points each, with DeNeve's coming from a successful penalty kick and conversion and Lee's from a try.

In a back-and-forth first half, Brock was the only team able to notch a score as Lee broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.

A successful penalty kick in the 57th minute by DeNeve extended the Brock lead, but only provided breathing room momentarily as soon after Lee received her second yellow card of the game, forcing her side to play with one less player for the remaining 20 minutes.

Western was able to break through for the score in the 68th minute and a long successful conversion brought it to a one-point contest.

However, the Badgers were not done scoring as a late try from Mia Vandenhoek followed by DeNeve's successful conversion solidified the Brock victory on home turf.

Up next, the Badgers will host an OUA quarterfinal contest on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
