Hackett shines in upset win over No. 8 Gee-Gees

The Badgers pulled off an upset in their win over the Gee-Gees.

In the first of their two home games against Ottawa schools this weekend, the Brock Badgers men's basketball claimed a 69-66 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday, Nov. 15 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Second-year guard Davanté Hackett led the Badgers in points with 18 and recorded six rebounds. The Brampton native was lights out from behind the arc going 4-for-5. 

The Badgers bench put on show, with Brock recording 38 points off the bench to Ottawa's four.

The Gee-Gees were limited to nine points in the first quarter, which Brock capitalized on to hold a 14-9 lead.

To end the half, the Badgers struggled, falling behind by six points and a score of 35-29.

In the third quarter, the Gee-Gees added to its lead with the Badgers down 56-44. 

Late in the fourth quarter, Xavier Fearon scored seven points to help push the Badgers into a lead which they held on to win the game 69-66.

Fearon and Anthony Heyes both each scored ten total points for the Badgers, while Michael Matas led the way in rebounding with eight.

Up next, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team are once again at Bob Davis Gymnasium for a matchup against the No. 7 Carleton Ravens on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. You can catch the game on OUA.tv.
