Badgers fall in a heartbreaker against the No. 7 Redbirds

Brock fell in a close matchup against McGill.

The Brock Badgers men's hockey team could not hang on to their early lead as they fell to the McGill Redbirds on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Canada Games Park.

First-year forward Zack Stringer opened up the scoring early on for the Badgers as he buried his fifth of the season. Also finding the back of the net was first-year forward Braeden Lewis as he tallied his first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal.

The Badgers gave up a late goal as they battled in a tight second period, outshooting the Redbirds 13-9.

In the third period, McGill tied up the game one minute in and utilized their power-play to take the lead at 11:56 and seal the game.

The Badgers led the shot department with 23 shots compared to the Redbirds 22.

Matt Duarte, Riley Gannon, Ryan Thompson and Cole Tymkin all notched an assist each in the game.

Goaltender Samuel Vyletelka stopped 19 of the 22 shots that came his way in the contest.

Next for the Brock Badgers men's hockey team, they continue their home-stand with the No. 2 ranked Concordia Stingers on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. Last season, the Badgers defeated the Stingers 3-2 in an overtime thriller on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, in Montreal. The action is streamed on OUA.tv and tickets are available at https://brocku.universitytickets.com.
