Badgers dominate in statement win over Golden Hawks

The Badgers won big in their matchup against the Golden Hawks.

The Brock Badgers men's basketball team finished off a four-game home stand with three wins in their last four games, capped off by an emphatic 90-64 win over Laurier on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Second-year guard Nemanja Sarkanovic led the team in scoring with 14 points while hitting six of his ten shots from the field, and two for four from three-point range.

The Badgers lit it up from beyond the arc, hitting 14 of 32 shots for a 47.5% rate.

It was all about the defence for Brock in the first half as they held Laurier to 13 points in the first quarter and 11 points in the second while putting up 45 points of their own in the same frame.

The Golden Hawks came out with more pressure in the second half but the Badgers continued to outscore them by a score of 19-18 in the third quarter.

Headed into the fourth quarter, Brock continued to control the game, scoring another 26 points on the back of second-year guard Davante Hackett's 10 points in the frame.

The Badgers made it matter where it counted as they hit 33 of 69 total shots from the field for a 47.8% clip and hit 10 of the total 11 free throws. In contrast, Laurier hit for 21 of the 55 total shots for a 38.2% rate and shot just 63.2% from the charity stripe as they hit 12 of 19.

Up next for the Badgers, a trip north to Sault Ste. Marie to face the Algoma Thunderbirds at the George Leach Centre on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. You can catch the game on OUA.tv. These two teams last faced on Jan. 12, 2024 when the Badgers won by a score of 77-60.
