Ridgebacks take down Badgers

Brock was bested by Ontario Tech after a high-scoring middle frame.

The Brock Badgers women's hockey team suffered a 4-1 defeat on their road matchup against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Fourth-year forward Marisa Freeman scored her first goal of the season in the second period of the game.

Kennedy Lonson, a first-year goaltender, made an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) career-high 33 saves in the game.

Despite a valiant effort from the Badgers putting up 13 shots in the first period, the Ridgebacks' goal just four minutes in was the difference maker to open the game as they took a 1-0 lead.

Ontario Tech added to their advantage early in the period once again. A minute later, Brock brought the game within one off a slick move from Avery Dijlee who had her shot saved by Ridgebacks netminder Zoe McGee, with Freeman there to tap in the rebound.

To end the second period, Ontario Tech scored twice to take a 4-1 lead which remained the same until time expired in the game.

Diljee, a first-year forward, earned the lone assist on Freeman's goal.

The Badgers outshot the Ridgebacks 44-37.

Up next, the Badgers continue their road trip as they head to Kingston to face the Queens Gaels on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Catch the action live on OUA.tv. These teams last faced at Canada Games Park on Feb. 3, 2024, with the Badgers winning the contest 3-0.
