The Brock Badgers women's hockey team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory against the Queen's Gaels on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Kingston's Memorial Centre, snapping their three-game losing streak.
Second-year goaltender Ava Cruikshank recorded her first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) shutout, stopping an outstanding 36 shots in the win.
Breaking the deadlock in the first, forward Jenna Duarte buried a wraparound goal midway through the period to give the Badgers the early momentum.
Brock hung onto their early lead, as Queen's put on the pressure with 15 shots in the second period that were all turned away by Cruikshank.
The final period of play showcased Brock's outstanding defensive efforts, as a final power-play push from the Gaels was stopped and the Badgers went on to win.
Chloe Flanagan notched the lone assist of the game on Duarte's first period goal.
Queen's outshot Brock 36 to 26 in the contest.
