Badgers bested in matchup versus Mustangs

The Badgers record drops to 7-2.

The Brock Badgers women's basketball team fought to the final buzzer but fell short by a score of 89-81 against the Western Mustangs on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Alumni Hall in London.

Angeline Campbell matched a season-high in scoring with 21 points against the Mustangs while Madalyn Weinert registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Badgers opened the game hot with a quick seven unanswered points but the increased pressure from the Mustangs saw Brock trailing to close the first quarter with score of 21-19.

It didn't get easier in the second quarter as Brock scored 17 points to Westerns 20, putting the Badgers behind by a score of 41-36 at the end of 20 minutes.

The turnovers plagued Brock as they committed 13 in the first half compared to the 4 from Western as this led to 14 points for the Mustangs.

Western continued to apply strong defence in the third quarter but Brock made huge baskets and trailed by a score of 63-53 into the final frame.

Weinert got into foul trouble in the third quarter and saw her minutes limited in the frame.

Brock battled hard in the final quarter, scoring 28 to claw back but it was not enough.

The Badgers turnovers hurt the most with the Mustangs scoring 21 points off the 23 Brock turnovers compared to just 11 points on 15 Western turnovers.
