The hot start for the Badgers continues.
Keeping their undefeated record alive, the Brock women's basketball team defended home court with a 73-59 victory over the visiting Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Fourth-year guard/forward Madalyn Weinert led the Badgers in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, putting up a contest-high 25 points while adding eight rebounds and eight assists.
Joining Weinert in double digits was Oluwatito Akinnusi who had 19 of her own and added seven rebounds.
The Badgers got out to a great start thanks to Weinert as she had 11 of their 24 first-quarter points, while in contrast, the Warriors only earned eight total.
In the second quarter, the Badgers picked up their momentum defensively, notching three blocks as they held a 45-20 halftime advantage.
Despite giving up nine turnovers, the Warriors still put up 15 points while the Badgers put up 18 of their own to hold a 58-40 lead after three quarters.
Having built a comfortable lead in the first 30 minutes of play, the Badgers were able to fend off a quarter where they were outscored 19-15, taking the victory by a 14-point advantage.
The Badgers controlled the battle for free points as they notched 15-of-17 free throws for percentage of 88.2 while the Warriors were 12-for-23 for just 52.2 per cent.
In the turnover battle, the Warriors coughed up 28 compared to 15 from the Badgers. Brock took advantage of this by scoring 33 points off their opponent's mistakes.
Up next, the Badgers will host the first of two Ottawa-based teams on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. as they take on the Gee-Gees. The game can be seen live on OUA.tv. Tickets are also available at brocku.universitytickets.com. The last time these two teams met was last season when the Badgers travelled to Ottawa and fell to the Gee-Gees 74-56.
