The Brock Badgers' women's hockey team fell 4-3 on Saturday, Feb. 10 to the Windsor Lancers in Windsor.
Third-year forward
Madison Cronkwright scored her sixth goal of the season while
Malika McDonald and
Claudia Murphy also notched goals for the Badgers.
In the opening period, Windsor found a lead quickly from Jessica Gribbon, scoring just over a minute into the contest. The Badgers searched for a response, controlling the play throughout the first period and putting the pressure on the Lancers. Windsor scored late in the period to double their lead, despite the Badgers outshooting the Lancers 10-8.
Windsor increased their advantage to three goals midway through the second period through Emily Eikelboom. With just over four minutes to go in the middle frame, the Badgers' forecheck created a turnover in the offensive zone and the puck eventually ending up on the stick of Cronkwright. The Napanee product cut in quickly to the slot before firing home Brock's first goal of the game. Just over a minute later, a battle in front resulted in first-year forward
Tyra Edl getting a shot on the net, with second- McDonald finding the rebound and the Kinesiology major scoring on a backhand shot.
The third period was a closely contested one as the Badgers looked to tie the game and the Lancers aimed to retain their lead. Late in the closing frame, Windsor retook a two-goal lead on the power play as Maggie Peterson scored from in close. With just under a minute to go, Murphy scored a perfectly placed shot on a pass into the slot from fourth-year forward
Catriona Cormier. With the net empty, Brock searched for a fourth goal but Windsor closed out the game with a 4-3 win.
