The Brock Badgers women's soccer team put up a valiant effort in their home opener.
In a close contest, the Badgers came up short, falling to the visiting Golden Hawks 2-1 at Alumni Field on Friday, Aug. 30.
Brianna Bishop scored Brock's first goal of the season from the penalty spot after Stefanie Young was taken down in the box by Mya Brodrecht, the Laurier goalkeeper.
The goal from Bishop allowed the Badgers to tie the contest after the Golden Hawks struck first in the 16th minute.
Badgers' goalkeeper Shae Mitchell made multiple saves to keep things close in the first half. The Guelph product made nine saves in the contest.
A flurry of chances from Laurier in the second half gave them the deciding goal in the 67th minute.
The Golden Hawks outshot the Badgers by a total of 11 to two.
Up next, the Brock Badgers women's soccer team takes on the McMaster Marauders on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. in Hamilton.
