Badgers drop Sunday night contest to Marauders

A great first half effort from the Brock women's soccer team was not enough.

Despite scoring the first goal, the Badgers came up short to the McMaster Marauders by a score of 2-1 in Hamilton on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Sabrina Bisante, a fourth-year forward, continued her scoring ways from last season, burying her first goal of the year in the ninth minute.

Last season, Bisante was named an OUA Second Team All-Star and tied for first on the team with Jenna Parris with five goals.

The Marauders scored the next two goals, tying things up in the 66th minute and earning the go-ahead marker 13 minutes later.

Brock was given three yellow cards in the night with Makenna Williamson drawing two of them and Cerrina Toromoreno receiving the third. McMaster had two of their own from Caldwell Bryanna and Astaiza Nicole, respectively.

In the contest's latter stages, the Badgers fired multiple shots on net, finishing with 11 on the goal and 14 shots total. On the other side, the Marauders put up 17 with nine of them going on net.

Second-year goaltender Shae Mitchell made two total saves which included a key block on a McMaster free kick in the middle stages of the first half.

McMaster were unable to convert on a penalty kick from Abero Jade in the 69th minute.

Up next, the Badgers will return home to host the Western Mustangs on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at Alumni Field.
