The Brock Badgers women's soccer team came up short in a rainy affair against the No. 4 nationally ranked Western Mustangs.
Despite the loss, the Badgers held tight and had their chances until two late goals for the Mustangs gave the visitors the 2-0 win on Friday, Sept. 6.
Brock put on the pressure throughout the first half but could not open the scoring and continued to produce chances early in the second half.
In the 70th minute, the Mustangs scored the match's first goal from Tessa Dubeis-Phillip and followed that up with a goal from Avarie Thomas just over six minutes later from the penalty spot.
Shae Mitchell made multiple important saves early in the opening half. The second-year goalkeeper from Guelph made four saves in the match.
Brock was given two yellow cards with Nyssa Navalta and Irelan Scanlon receiving one each. Western also received a yellow card which was given to Avarie Thomas.
The shots on goal went in the favour of the Mustangs who put up six while the Badgers notched five.
Up next, the Brock Badgers women's soccer team travels to London to take on this same Western Mustangs team on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m.
