Badgers earn massive win against Gryphons

The Brock Badgers men's soccer team earned a hard-fought win for their first of the season.

Brock played an intense matchup against Guelph and won 4-2 on Sunday Sept. 22 at Alumni Field.

Conrad Czarnecki, Zain Nizam, Michael Pais and Tiago Pereira were the Badgers' goal scorers in this match with Alp Eren Arikan notching the match's only assist.

The Gryphons took the lead late into the first half on a goal from Osayuki Ibie.

Brock quickly bounced back and equalized in the 43rd minute on an outstanding unassisted goal from Pais.

Goals in quick succession from Pereira and Nizam combined with a penalty scored for Guelph put Brock up 3-2 late in the contest.

Czarnecki sealed the deal for the Badgers with a perfectly placed penalty in the 72nd minute.

Goalkeeper Taylor Miskolczi stood his ground throughout the match and made three saves.

The fast-paced matchup ended with the Badgers tallying eleven total shots, seven being on target while the Gryphons had eight shots with five on target.

Brocks yellow card recipients were Czarnecki and Chris Yeboah in the second half. Ibie, Peter Bandula, Gianfranco Lopreiato and Gray Yates received yellow cards for Guelph.

In the win, Pais, a first-year defender, scored his first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal.

Up next, the Badgers travel to Waterloo to take on the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, Sept. 27 at 8:15 p.m. Last season, the Badgers took down the Warriors by a score of 4-2 in Waterloo on Oct. 6, 2023.
