The Brock Badgers women's lacrosse team battled in a close matchup during their home opener.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Badgers were bested 10-7 by the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Alumni Field.
Gabby Winters, a first-year midfielder, provided an outstanding performance, scoring four of the Badgers' seven goals.
Despite her two-goal effort and an additional tally from Abby Holliday, Brock trailed 6-3 at the half.
Winters put two more goals in the back of the net with assists from Kyla McGuire and Kennedy Smith, but Ontario Tech held an 8-5 lead in the third quarter.
McGuire and Lucy Lee tallied one goal each for the Badgers in the final frame, but the Badgers fell 10-76.
Brock's Kamryn Brown and Mielle McKnight split time between the pipes.
A yellow card for inappropriate contact was awarded to Brock's Emmery Borg for the only card of the game.
Up next, the Badgers look to bounce back as they take on the McGill Martlets on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:15 p.m. and the Trent Excalibur at 4:45 p.m. Both games take place at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough.
