Badgers fall short in tight contest against the No. 9 Gryphons

Brock began their weekend stretch with a loss on the road to Guelph.

The majority of this contest remained scoreless as the Brock Badgers women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the No. 9 Guelph Gryphons at the Gryphons Centre Arena on Friday, Jan. 10.

Goaltender Ava Cruikshank delivered an outstanding performance only allowing one goal on 21 shots against.

Brock's penalty kill units and goaltender Cruikshank saw early success in the first period as they went down two players and successfully defended the swift Guelph power play.

After receiving their first power play of the game the Badgers fell short of capitalizing, while both teams had eight shots each in a narrow second period.

Guelph broke the scoreless tie early into the third period and Brock brought the pressure for the remainder of the frame but fell short of the comeback.

Brock led the shot tally with 24 shots while Guelph had 21.

Up next, the Badgers will return for their first home game of 2025 as they rematch the Gryphons on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at Canada Games Park. Tickets are available here and the action is streamed on OUA.tv.
