Weinert picks up 13th double-double; Badgers take down Ridgebacks

The Brock women's basketball team earned an impressive 83-58 victory in Oshawa.

On Friday, Jan. 24, Brock battled and came out victorious against the Ontario Ridgebacks at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Fourth-year guard Madalyn Weinert made her presence felt on both ends of the court as she recorded 23 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. This marked her 13th game of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season where she recorded 10 or more points and rebounds.

In a back-and-forth opening quarter, the Badgers escaped leading 23-19 with 10 points coming from Weinert.

Ontario Tech made a push and got the lead early in the second, but Brock secured seven offensive rebounds which translated to 10 second chance points and a 49-31 lead at the midway mark.

Coming out of the break, the Badgers continued their strong offence, but it was their phenomenal defence that was the difference, forcing nine turnovers and picking up six steals and two blocks to end the quarter ahead by a score of 67-45.

That effort continued the rest of the way en route to a Badgers' victory.

Jamie Addy, Olivia Fiorucci and Shailah Adams also recorded double-digit points in the contest with 15, 11 and 10, respectively.

The Badgers led the field-goal percentage department with 45.7 per cent as opposed to 34.5 from the Ridgebacks.

Brock led the game with 18 steals and five blocks, compared to Ontario Tech's eight steals and one block.

Coming up, the Badgers have a quick turnaround as they head to the Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston on Saturday, Jan. 25, for an evening tilt against the Queen's Gaels with tip-off at 4 p.m. In their previous matchup on Nov. 24, 2024, the Badgers left victorious by a score of 80-66 at home.
