Collective effort lifts women’s basketball over Thunderwolves

Brock got back to winning their ways on Friday.

The Brock Badgers women's basketball team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 77-53 on Jan. 31 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Madalyn Weinert led the Badgers with a triple-double, the fourth-year guard's first of the season, recording 18 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists.

Brock ended the first quarter with a 28-8 lead against Lakehead, with Weinert scoring ten points and the Badgers as a team shooting 50 per cent from beyond the arc.

Looking to find some life in the game, the Thunderwolves controlled the tempo in the second quarter, outscoring the Badgers 15-14 but still trailing 42-23 at the half.

The third frame opened with Angeline Campbell draining back-to-back three-pointers as Brock continued to widen the gap, leading 65-47 at the end of the quarter.

With their backs against the wall, Lakehead took control of another quarter; this time outscoring Brock 16-12 which ultimately put a small dent in the final result of 77-53.

The Badgers found success from long-range, recording 13 three-pointers in the victory.

Brock's field-goal percentage of 42.9 bested Lakehead's 29.2.
