The Brock Badgers women's basketball team started 2025 with a commanding 69-54 victory.Â
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Badgers opened the second half of the season at Bob Davis Gymnasium against the York Lions.Â
Fifth-year guard Angeline Campbell had a memorable night, producing 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. 21 of Campbell's points came from three-pointers, as she knocked down seven from distance for a career high.Â
Madalyn Weinert continued right where she left off before the break, as she dominated the game with 24 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Â
After a low-scoring first quarter, the Badgers led 17-9 as there were plenty of turnovers and strong defence from both teams.Â
Campbell demonstrated her limitless range with two triples, helping Brock continue its strong effort with a 30-18 lead heading into halftime.Â
York came out hard to cut into Brock's lead, but at the end of the third frame Brock led 50-36 thanks to Weinert who scored eight points in the quarter.
From there on, the Badgers did not look back and continued to excel and counter the York baskets and runs en route to an impressive win. Â
Brock led the field-goal percentage department with 36.7% compared to the Lions' 27.4%.Â
Next up, the Badgers will travel to the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto to play against the TMUÂ Bold on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. In their last matchup, it was the Bold that left victorious by a score of 73-65 in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarterfinal. This game will be streamed on OUA TV. Â
