The Badgers were victorious Friday night, defeating the Western Mustangs 3-1 at Thompson Arena in London, Ont. Allison Moore, Carly Sardine and Jenna Duarte all scored for Brock, while goaltender Megan Thiessen earned the victory by stopping 36 of 37 shots. Moore opened the scoring six minutes into the first period with her third goal in two games and Sardine doubled the Badgers' lead with her first career OUA goal midway through the second. Western capitalized on a power-play early in the third, scoring less than two minutes into the final frame to cut Brock's lead to one. Despite the Mustangs' attack, the Badgers played strong defence, and Duarte added the insurance marker late in the third to seal the win. The final shots were 37 to 14 in favour of Western.

Saturday, Oct. 18: L 3-1 at Windsor Lancers | Box Score

During the second game of their weekend road trip, the Badgers fell 3-1 to the Windsor Lancers at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in Windsor, Ont. Duarte scored the Badger's only goal, with Kylee Strano being credited for the assist. The Lancers got the scoring started after Elissa Benjamin found the net late in the first period. Minutes later, Duarte evened the score with a power-play goal. The Lancers knocked in their second goal late in the second period and put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal late in the third. The Badgers remained aggressive, winning the shot battle 28-27, while converting a higher percentage of their power plays, besting the Lancers 25 per cent to 14 per cent in that category.

Up next, the Badgers will return home to Canada Games Park to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. Continuing their homestand, the Badgers will play host to the York Lions for a 6 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Men's Hockey
Friday, Oct. 17: W 3-1 at Waterloo Warriors | Box Score

The Brock Badgers took a trip down to Columbia Icefield Arena in Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Waterloo Warriors where they came out on top 3-1. Ryan Stepian had an impressive night, scoring his first two goals of the season as well as getting an assist. Sawyer Prokopetz netted his first OUA goal, which was the game-winning goal. Brock's goalie Will Hambley turned aside 29 of 30 shots, getting his first win on the season. The Badgers got things started early, with Stepian scoring 2:55 into the first period and Prokopetz adding to the lead late in the frame with a slap shot from the point. Waterloo responded 17:55 into the second to make it a one-goal game, but it was not enough as Stepien found the back of the empty net in the final seconds of the game to secure the Badgers' win. Brock stayed very disciplined throughout the game, only taking four minutes of penalties, which was a key factor in the victory.

Sunday, Oct. 19 L 3-2 (OT) at Laurier Golden Hawks | Box Score

The Brock Badgers men's hockey team suffered a 3-2 overtime loss in a very close game to the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex in Waterloo, Ont. Despite the loss, Hambley made an impressive 41 saves on 44 total shots. The two goal scorers of the game were Zack Stringer who scored and earned an assist and Stephen Calisti. The Badgers got off to an early lead, with Calisti scoring on the power play about halfway through the first period. Stringer followed with a goal less than two minutes later. The Golden Hawks responded with two goals in the second frame, tying the game heading into the third. After a scoreless third period, the game went to overtime. In a back-and-forth extra frame, both teams had their chances, but the Golden Hawks scored with just six seconds remaining to take the win. Brock was effective on the penalty kill, not allowing a goal on any of their three penalties on the day.

Up next, the Badgers host the TMU Bold at Canada Games Park on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
