Men's Basketball
Friday, Oct. 24: L 61-57 vs. Toronto Varsity Blues | Box Score

After a long offseason, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team returned to Bob Davis Gymnasium for their home opener against the Toronto Varsity Blues. They would drop their first contest 61-57. Michael Okeke scored a team-high nine points, while first-year guard Birch Pockar added eight points and 10 rebounds. The end of the first half saw the Badgers trailing 32-31, with Andrew McKenna's seven first-half points helping keep the game close. Michael Matas' five third-quarter points helped the Badgers take a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Brock was unable to survive the Varsity Blues attack, dropping the final frame 16-11. The Badgers won the assist battle 12-9, while also converting a higher percentage of field goals at 33.3 per cent to the Varsity Blues' 32.8. 

Saturday, Oct. 25: W 71-62 vs. TMU Bold | Box Score

Looking to bounce back after Friday's defeat, the Badgers earned a 71-62 statement victory over the TMU Bold at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Ben Herbert scored a team-high 16 points, while McKenna added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The end of the first half saw the Badgers trailing by one point, with Herbert and Matas each recording nine points. Coming out of the break, the Badgers made their mark, outscoring the Bold 35-25 while connecting on 43 per cent of their three-point attempts in the fourth quarter. Isaiah Bujdoso and Herbert each recorded seven points in the second half, with Anthony Heyes adding two three-pointers in the third quarter. Brock dominated the glass, winning the rebounding contest 43-26. The bench contribution was key for the Badgers, outscoring the Bold's reserves by a score of 30-14. 

Up next, Brock will hit the road and travel to Hamilton for a matchup against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Nov. 1. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.

Women's Basketball
Friday, Oct. 24: W 72-67 vs. Toronto Varsity Blues | Box Score

Beginning their season at Bob Davis Gymnasium for their home opener, the Brock Badgers women's basketball team earned a 72-67 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. Madalyn Weinert put up a game-high 30 points and 16 rebounds, while Shailah Adams added 15 points. The first half saw the Badgers break out to a 32-21 lead. Weinert poured in 14 points while also contributing defensively, recording two blocks and two steals in the first quarter. After the Varsity Blues cut the Badgers' lead to five at the end of the third frame, Weinert and Adams helped the Badgers maintain their advantage. Weinert recorded 10 fourth-quarter points, while Adams contributed seven of her 15 in the fourth to go along with two steals. The Badgers won the rebounding battle 39-34, while also converting a higher percentage of their field goals, knocking down 44 per cent to the Varsity Blues' 39. 

Saturday, Oct. 25: L 76-60 vs. TMU Bold | Box Score

The Badgers battled but ultimately fell to the TMU Bold 76-60 on Saturday at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Weinert picked up where she left off, putting together another strong performance with 27 points on 65 per cent shooting and 15 rebounds, while Adams and Ava Stranges both added nine points of their own. At the end of the first half, Brock trailed 35-23 but a strong third quarter brought the game within striking distance. In the end, TMU pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Brock 22-12. Free throw shooting was a key difference with TMU converting 18-of-23 free throws to Brock's nine-of-16.

Up next, the Badgers will travel to Hamilton. for a 6 p.m. clash with the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Men's Hockey
Saturday, Oct. 25: L 3-0 vs. TMU Bold | Box Score

The Brock Badgers men's hockey team fell short 3-0 against the TMU Bold at Canada Games Park on Saturday afternoon. Second-year goaltender Ben Bonisteel saved 40 shots, trying his best to keep Brock in it. TMU took a quick 2-0 lead in the first period and then added one more in the second, which was the final goal in the game. The Badgers put 29 shots on net but were not able to find the back of the net in the contest.

Up next, the Badgers host the Waterloo Warriors in the hopes of a bounce-back game at Canada Games Park on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.

Women's Hockey
Friday, Oct. 24: W 4-3 vs. Queen's Gaels | Box Score

The Badgers earned the win on Friday night, defeating the Queen's Gaels 4-3 at Canada Games Park. Avery Diljee, Rayna Franklin, Allison Moore and Taylor Wolsey each found the back of the net, while goalie Megan Thiessen made 16 saves. Franklin opened the scoring in the first period and Moore gave the Badgers the 2-1 lead at the end of one. Queen's took advantage of a power play in the second period to knot things up at two after 40 minutes of play. Diljee and Wolsey each tacked on to the score in the third period to give the Badgers enough to secure the victory. Despite the late pressure from the Gaels, the Badgers secured their third win of the season. Both teams finished even in the shots department at 19 apiece.

Saturday, Oct. 25: W 4-1 vs. York Lions | Box Score

Continuing their winning ways, the Badgers bested the York Lions by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night at Canada Games Park. Franklin, Kaedyn Gomes, Moi Moi Luu and Kylee Strano all scored for Brock, and Thiessen stopped 27 of 28 shots to secure the win for the Badgers. These were the first career OUA goals for both Luu and Strano. After a first period where neither team found the back of the net, Luu scored the first goal of the game in the second. Strano added to the Badgers' goal tally only 30 seconds later. York responded with a goal of their own within the minute but didn't score again for the rest of the game. Gomes added a goal late in the third period to give the Badgers some insurance. The Badgers were very effective on the penalty kill, scoring two of their goals while a player down.

Up next, the Brock Badgers take on the Nipissing Lakers away on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at the Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ont.

Men's Rowing
Friday, Oct. 24 - Saturday, Oct. 25: First at OUA Championships | Results

It was a historic day for the Brock Badgers men's rowing team at Henley Island on Saturday as won their their fifth straight title in a row which is a program first and their 16th championship overall. Riley Watson earned the OUA Men's Rower of the Year award after winning two gold medals, and Scott Anderson and Tom Kent were named OUA Men's Coaches of the Year. Out of 10 races, the Badgers appeared nine times on the podium, securing five gold medals, two silvers and two bronze.

Women's Rowing
Friday, Oct. 24 - Saturday, Oct. 25: Fourth at OUA Championships | Results
 
The women's rowing team improved on their seventh-place result from a year ago, finishing fourth. Sending only eight rowers, which is much smaller than the typical team size, the Badgers medalled three times. Jalyn Mowry and Jalyn Mowry captured a gold in the women's double event, while the women's eight boat consisting of coxswain Haley Knott and crewmates Kristina Harris, Lila Lane, Ana Cumming, Genavieve Jopling, Mowry, Orth, Isabella Durcak and Zoe Durcak earned a silver medal.

Men's Rugby
Saturday, Oct. 25: L 28-21 at Western Mustangs (OUA Quarterfinal)

The Badgers battled in a very tight quarterfinal matchup with the Western Mustangs at Alumni Field in London, Ont., where they ultimately came up short 28-21. Leading the Badgers was Grant Meadows, who scored 10 points from two tries, while Sam Morreale was the Badgers' primary kicker for the first time this season and made good on two conversions. The Badgers went up at half 21-14 as Meadows scored twice, and Robin French also found the try zone. 14 straight points from Western was the story of the second half as Brock was unable to find a game-tying score.

Men's Volleyball
Friday, Oct. 24: L 3-0 at Queen's Gaels | Box Score

Starting off the season against a perennial national contender in the Queen's Gaels, the Badgers came up short 3-0 (19-25, 25-27, 21-25) on Friday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) in Kingston, Ont. Two Badgers finished in double digits in points in Kylar Code, who had 13 from 11 kills, one service ace and one solo block, and Devin Cooney, who notched 10.5 from 10 kills and one block assist. Adam Shapcott paced the offence with 28 assists. The first set went the way of the Gaels, but it was in the second where the Badgers showed their fight. Despite being down as large as 24-21, Brock made it close as Cooney and Code notched kills to tie it up. Ultimately, Queen's scored the final two points in the second frame and took the third set to take the match. Brock's defence kept them in the game, finishing with 22 compared to 19 from Queen's. 

Saturday, Oct. 25: L 3-0 at Queen's Gaels | Box Score

Brock dropped the rematch, falling 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 11-25) to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday night in Kingston. Cooney recorded nine points, all of which came from kills, while Code added 7.5 points off of four kills, three service aces and one block assist. Caleb Huot was the leader in assists for the Badgers, earning 13 of his own. In the first set, Brock trailed by a single point 10-9, but Queen's took the next four points and eventually the set. The Badgers kept the game close down two in the middle of the frame, but the Gaels pulled away to win it 25-17 and added a third set win 25-11 to win the match. Queen's hit at a .484 clip while the Badgers only notched a .015 percentage. 

The Badgers look to get back on track next weekend as they play host to the Western Mustangs for their Halloween 'VolleyBoo Bash' game on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The matchups will take place at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Women's Volleyball
Friday, Oct. 24: W 3-2 at Queen's Gaels | Box Score

It was a thrilling start to the season for the Brock Badgers women's volleyball team as they earned a 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 23-25. 24-26. 15-13) victory over the Queen's Gaels at the Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont. The Badgers were led by Emily Foest, who notched 20 points from 16 kills and four service aces, while Mackenna Knox led the offence with 49 assists. Daryan Chadwick and Madison Tuck also finished with double-digit kills, finishing with 12 and 14, respectively. Coming out strong, the Badgers took the first two sets. The next two frames saw the Gaels win by the thinnest margins with two-point victories. The fifth set was tight throughout, with the Badgers' lead getting as large as 11-8 before a service error from the Gaels ended the game. Controlling the service, line the Badgers delivered nine aces to just three from the host Gaels.  

Saturday, Oct. 25: W 3-2 at Queen's Gaels | Box Score

The Badgers' second game of the season did not disappoint, as they took a narrow 3-2 victory (14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 16-14) in a rematch against Queen's on Saturday. Foest led the way in points, earning 16 off of 13 kills, two service aces and two block assists. Tuck earned 10 points of her own, while Chadwick and Emma Baruchelli added 8.5 apiece. After falling behind 2-1, Brock clawed back to take the fourth set, forcing a deciding fifth set which went down to the wire. In the deciding frame, the Badgers fell behind 12-9, but they were able to keep their composure and took five out of the next seven points, bringing the game to 14-14. Foest notched kills on the final two points and Brock was able to pull off the statement comeback, defeating Queen's for the second night in a row. The Badgers picked up the win despite being outhit by the Gaels .204 to .147.

Up next, the Badgers return to Bob Davis Gymnasium for a doubleheader showdown with the Western Mustangs. The first game, the 'VolleyBoo Bash' is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m., with the second matchup set for Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m.

Men's Cross Country
Saturday, Oct. 25: Placed eighth at OUA Championships

The Brock men's cross country team ran at the OUA Championships in Kingston on Saturday, Oct. 25. Isaac Iannarelli was Brock's top finisher, placing 26th overall in the event, leading the Badgers to an eighth-place finish.

Women's Cross Country
Saturday, Oct. 25: Placed seventh at OUA Championships

Over the weekend, the Brock Badgers women's cross country team travelled to Kingston for the OUA Championships. With a seventh-place finish, the Badgers earned their best result in the modern era. Lauren Macsai finished the race placing ninth overall, earning her OUA Second Team All-Star honours.
