Shawn Nesbitt gained valuable experience, racing against international competition at the 2025 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships.
Taking place in Browne's Beach in Bridgetown, Barbados, the three-day event started on Friday, Nov. 21 and ended on Sunday, Nov. 23.
Nesbitt represented the Turks and Caicos National Team and competed in two events: the Under-21 men's solo and U21 mixed double with partner Adelle Fulton.
"I think competing at this event made me feel grateful to be in a place that felt like home, which took off much of the pressure," Nesbitt said. "In the Caribbean, you line up at the starting gates with the usual anticipation, knowing you need to perform for yourself and your teammates, but around you are tourists and locals enjoying the same beach and sunshine as you. It makes for a unique experience."
A second-year Computer Science student from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, Nesbitt is coming off his first season with the Brock Badgers men's rowing program.
"We are proud of Shawn for representing the Turks and Caicos National Team and for all of his development this fall," said Brock rowing head coach Katie Bruggeling.
Nesbitt faced strong competition at the event, racing against boats from Australia, Barbados, Canada, England, Scotland and South Africa.
