Badgers earn three medals at largest U.S. collegiate rowing regatta

Members of the Brock rowing program are coming back from the United States with some well-earned hardware.

The Badgers earned a total of three medals at the two-day Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate rowing event in the United States, which took place at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J. from Friday, May 8 to Saturday, May 9.

"The team's performance is super exciting and demonstrates a strong winter of training and commitment," said rowing head coach Katie Bruggeling. "It's always fun to race in the United States and show what Canadian teams can do."

Both the men's varsity double boat (Charles Etienne-Tabet and Euan Coulson) and men's varsity lightweight four crew (Sawyer Dalton, Griffin Wick, Arden White, Ivan Fernandez, (coxswain) Daniel Philips) placed first in their respective events.

In the men's varsity double, Brock won by the thinnest of margins, finishing in a time of seven minutes, two seconds and 110 milliseconds, just 460 milliseconds ahead of the second-place boat from the Oklahoma City Stars.

Phillips and his men's varsity lightweight four group crossed the finish line in 6:49.700, which was over six seconds in front of the group from the Fordham Rams that earned silver.

Tabet added to his medal haul with a silver medal in the men's varsity single with a time of 7:32.000.

Gaining valuable experience was the women's novice/freshman four crew of Jessica Sipos, Jordan Rogers, Lucy Vershinin, Zoe Blundell and coxswain Haley Knott. They battled to a fourth-place finish with a time of 8:25.700.

Joining the Badgers in action at the event were three other Canadian university teams in the Queen's Gaels, Trent Excalibur and Western Mustangs.

Both rowing teams are coming off successful seasons. The men's side won its fifth consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) title in 2025, while the women's team placed fourth despite fielding only eight rowers.
