Brock bounced back with a decisive win.Â
The No. 10 nationally ranked Brock Badgers men's basketball team earned a 98-85 victory over the No. 9 Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.Â
Davante Hackett led the Badgers in points with 21 in the contest, recording an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) career-high five three-pointers along the way. Brock's Nathan Charles and Michael Matas both grabbed 10 boards which was a game high.
Seeking revenge after yesterday's loss, Brock went on a 14-0 run to begin the game thanks to six points from Hackett and five points from Michael Matas. The Badgers closed out the first quarter with a 27-13 advantage. Â
In the second quarter, the two teams traded points back-and-forth with Brock edging out Lakehead 22-20 in the frame and 49-33 heading into the half. Â
Hackett impressively drained three consecutive three-pointers, ultimately helping the Badgers go up 72-52 after three quarters played.Â
Lakehead pushed themselves back into the contest in the fourth frame but Brock's advantage built from the previous three quarters secured the hosts the win. Â
Brock's 98 points scored was the most Lakehead had allowed all OUA regular season, on top of handing the visitors just its third loss of the campaign.Â
The hosts were the leading scorers in the paint, boasting a 53.5 field-goal percentage to the Thunderwolves' 40.6.
Today also marked the start of Black History Month/African Heritage Month and the All for Change games. This February, the Badgers will promote social justice and raise funds for the Black or Indigenous Heritage Student-Athlete (BIHS) bursary, with one dollar from every varsity ticket sold in February going towards the bursary.
Up next, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team take on the TMU Bold on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. at Bob Davis Gymnasium. You can secure your tickets at https://brocku.universitytickets.com/ and the action will be streamed on OUA.tv. Last time out, the Badgers were victorious in Toronto, winning 74-66 on Jan. 12, 2025. Â
