Badgers prevail over Varsity Blues on Friday night

Brock claimed a 21-point win in Toronto.

The Brock Badgers women's basketball team earned a triumphant 61-40 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Goldring Centre.

Fourth-year forward Madalyn Weinert notched her 14th double-double of the season from 17 points and 14 rebounds.

With the win, the Badgers continue to hold the second spot behind the TMU Bold in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Central Division with one game to go.

Brock shot an efficient 47.1 per cent from the field and earned five steals in the first quarter to put themselves ahead of the Varsity Blues by a score of 19-12.

The Badgers ignited and played a complete second quarter. They held the Varsity blues to only five points in the frame, allowing them to extend their lead to 31-17 at the halfway mark.

The third quarter saw Brock continue to score as Toronto's turnover trouble allowed the Badgers to outscore them 18-11 in the frame.

Although the teams both scored 12 points in the fourth and final frame, the Badgers were able to rely on their previously built lead to earn their 15th win of the regular season.

Brock shot 30 per cent from the field in the contest, holding Toronto to 19.4 per cent.

Up next, the Brock Badgers will head to York University to face the Lions at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. for their last game of the regular season. This will be the second meeting this season between these two teams, with Brock earning a 69-54 win on Jan. 8. You can steam the action live on OUA.tv.
