Rempel selected to U20 national team, headed to Ireland in May

For the second straight summer, Brooke Rempel will be wearing the Red and White.

Rempel, a second-year prop, was selected to the Team Canada U20 women's team in an announcement made on Friday, March 14.

"I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to play for Team Canada," Rempel said. "Wearing the Canadian jersey and representing my country on the rugby field is a dream come true. I can't wait to give my all and make Canada proud."

The U20 team is set to travel to Ireland in early May with two matches scheduled against the Irish U20 women's team on May 10 and 17. Both matches will take place at the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) High Performance Centre in Blanchardstown, Ireland.

This marks the first time Canada has played Ireland in U20 competition as the Ireland U20 program launched recently in 2023.

"We are very excited that Brooke's ability and hard work have been recognized at the national level again," said Brock women's rugby head coach Adrian Brown. "Brooke is very deserving of this opportunity as one of the most dedicated athletes we have had the pleasure of working with."

Last summer, Rempel travelled to Wales to compete with the U20 women's national team for the inaugural Transatlantic Quad Series, where they would go a perfect 3-0 in matches against England, the United States and Wales.

During the most recent Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season with the Badgers, the Ariss, ON product started every game and added three tries while averaging over five broken tackles per contest. At the end of the season, Rempel was named the team's Defender of the Year as voted on by her peers.

Brooke constantly strives from improvement and to make an impact every time she steps on the pitch," Brown said. "There is no doubt she will bring this same attitude and work ethic to the Red jersey; we are very proud of her."
