The Brock Badgers men's rowing team will be well represented at the upcoming Junior Pan American Games Qualification Regatta.
Euan Coulson, Riley Watson and Maddox Harrison, three current Brock rowers, were selected on the team while Brock head coach Katie Bruggeling was named to the coaching staff by Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA).
The competition starts on Wednesday, March 19 and goes until Saturday, March 22 in Asunción, Paraguay, with their training period having started on Friday, March 14.
The three rowers are eagerly anticipating the chance to compete at the international level.
"We are very excited to be representing our country and the Brock Badgers, and we hope to make our country and school proud," they said. "We are incredibly grateful to be receiving this opportunity, and we are deeply thankful to the Brock rowing program for supporting us and making our dreams come true."
All three are coming off strong university seasons where they combined for a total of two national medals at the Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURC) and three medals at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships.
Watson finished with a provincial gold and national silver in the men's lightweight four races, while he joined Coulson and Harrison in the men's eight to capture a silver at the OUA Championships and a bronze at the CURC. Coulson also added an OUA silver medal in the men's four to his medal haul.
"It's an incredible opportunity for our Brock rowers to compete at the Junior Pan American Qualification Regatta and to test themselves against international competition," Bruggeling said. "We're proud to see them represent both Brock and Canada on this stage."
Athletes selected this event were identified through RCA's NextGen Assessment and Monitoring program, as well as their performances at key 2024 events such as the National Rowing Championships, the CURC, OUA Championships and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
