Schaffer, Pemberton named Brock University Athletes of the Week

Tia Schaffer (Saskatoon, Sask.) of the women's soccer team and Robbie Pemberton (Richmond Hill, Ont.) of the men's golf team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 14.

Schaffer, a fifth-year defender, scored two goals on Sunday to help the Badgers collect a 2-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors in the Beach Ball Brawl theme game. The Professional Kinesiology student put together a dominant performance, opening the scoring with a header off a corner kick in the 29th minute. In the 89th minute, Schaffer was called on to seal the victory with a penalty kick, and buried her second of the game. On Friday, Sept. 12, Schaffer also logged 90 minutes in a narrow 1-0 loss against the Guelph Gryphons. This is Schaffer's second time collecting Athlete of the Week honours this season, and she now ranks third in goals in the conference.

On the course, Pemberton opened the season with a roaring start. The fourth-year golfer shot a remarkable 65 at the Guelph Fall Kickoff at Guelph Lakes and Country Club on Friday. The Physical Education major's six-under scorecard was the second lowest of the entire day and helped lead the men's team to a second-place finish at the event. With five birdies and an eagle, the captain's 65 is one of the best single-day scores in school history. Playing in his final season with Brock, Pemberton looks to build on this impressive first event.
