Badgers men’s basketball adds six recruits for 2025-26 season

The Brock men's basketball team has bolstered their squad with the addition of six new players.

Magnus Carlos, James Lawton, Emmanuel Oko-Oboh, Cairo Perry, Birch Pockar, Evan Wouters were announced as signings on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

"We are excited to bring in another group of players that chose Brock and our program to help them achieve their goals," said head coach Willy Manigat. "This class is a special one and reminds me of our class two years ago. I expect them to make an immediate impact to our team on and off the floor."

Carlos, the first of two point guards signed by Manigat, is a 6-2 Winnipeg product that comes to the Badgers from Vincent Massey Collegiate and the Ignite Basketball Academy program.

The incoming Sport Management student was the No. 1 rated recruit out of Manitoba, who has been a member of Team Manitoba. He was also named the Male Athlete of the Year by the Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) this past season.

"I was drawn to the wonderful coaching staff and opportunity to compete here at Brock," Carlos said. "I look forward to learning new things while as a Badger."

Bringing a presence down in the post is Lawton, a 6-7 forward from Winnipeg who was a teammate of Carlos with Ignite.

He attended St. John's Ravenscourt School where he was a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball, hockey and soccer.

"I wanted to go to Brock because of the Business program and all the supportive campus communities," Lawton said. "Not just that, but also because of the strong basketball team and coaches that will help me succeed in and out of basketball."

Oko-Oboh, a 6-9 forward, has played for Ashbury College and Capital Courts Boys.

The Ottawa native captured a silver medal with Team Ontario at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John's, N.L.

"I chose to attend Brock because of the school environment and the opportunity coach Willy would provide to push me every day," Oko-Oboh said. "I look forward to getting better and being challenged while I'm a Badger."

Playing for one of the country's top prep programs, Royal Crown School, Perry brings national championship-winning experience in the National Preparatory Association (MPA) to the Badgers.

A 6-6 small forward from Pickering, Ont., Perry also played club basketball with the Northern Kings.

"I chose Brock University to develop into the best version of myself both on and off the court," Perry said. "I'm excited for the amazing culture, coaching staff and the encouragement of my fellow teammates."

Another player from the Prairies is Pockar, a 6-4 guard from Calgary, who spent four seasons in prep basketball with the Edge School, where he gained valuable high-level prep experience.

He also represented Team Alberta multiple times, and on the club circuit, the incoming Business major competed for Genesis Basketball.

"The belief the coaching staff placed on me and the opportunity to win at the national level were both major factors which drew me to attend Brock University," Pockhar said. "My greatest accomplishment in basketball is earning a spot with the Brock Badgers and being able to pursue a higher education."

The last recruit in this year's recruiting class and second point guard added is Wouters, a 6-1 Mono, Ont., native who played four years of basketball in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA).

The future Sport Management major played his first two years with Victory Academy before moving onto Orangeville Prep for his grade 11 season. Transferring for the remainder of his final high school career, Wouters played for Against the Six Prep where he was named a team captain.

"My older brother Erik played basketball at Brock for four years and had an amazing experience, and I look forward to playing with and for some of the same people and players he did," Wouters said. "The Brock men's basketball team is consistently one of the top baseball programs in Canada and having the opportunity to be a part of that is special."

A couple early preseason tournaments both at home and in Calgary will give the Badgers some important reps before they get their regular season started on Friday, Oct. 24 against the Toronto Varsity Blues at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
