Weinert was heavily involved in the third, scoring nine of Brock's 20 points to help the Badgers add to their advantage. Nipissing battled back in the final frame, outscoring Brock 22-10, but the hosts won the game with their well-built lead throughout the first three quarters. In a home clash at Bob Davis Gymnasium, the Badgers defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 82-45 on Saturday during the 19th annual Shoot for The Cure game, a nationwide U SPORTS campaign to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. Weinert delivered another dominant performance, posting a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds. This marks the seventh straight game where Weinert recorded a double-double as well as at least 20 points, and she currently sits in first place in the OUA in both points and rebounds. Second-year guard Ava Stranges also played an impactful game, scoring 15 points and supplying four assists. The Badgers started out the game very strong, going on a 10-0 run. However, the Voyageurs were able to bring the game back within striking distance as the first quarter ended with the Badgers leading 20-13. After the Voyageurs tied the game at the start of the frame, the Badgers went on a 15-7 run to start the second half with a healthy lead of 35-27. Brock really came alive in the third quarter scoring 24 points to Laurentian's 12, jumping out to a 59-39 advantage. The Badgers took this advantage and never looked back, finishing the game with a strong 23-6 final quarter. The Badgers were impressively efficient from the field on the night, shooting 44.6 per cent and 37.9 per cent from three-point range.
Next up, the Brock Badgers travel to Thunder Bay, Ont., for a doubleheader against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Both games will take place at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse with the first game set for Friday, Jan.16 at 6 p.m. and the second to occur on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.Â

The No. 10 Brock Badgers defended home court with a 70-56 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Andrew McKenna set the tone offensively, finishing with 15 points, while Michael Okeke added 10 points on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting performance. The opening quarter saw both sides trading baskets as neither team was able to gain separation with the score tied 15-15. The Badgers began to find their footing in the second frame, moving the ball effectively and carrying a narrow 31-30 lead into halftime. The momentum shifted in the third as Brock outscored Nipissing 17-13 and locked things down defensively with four steals. Brock held off a late push in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 22-18, but a strong performance over the previous three frames proved enough to secure the victory. The Badgers controlled the glass with 46 rebounds, generated 18 second-chance points and shot 37.1 per cent from the field compared to the Lakers' 33.9.

In the second game of a home back-to-back, the No. 10 ranked Brock Badgers men's basketball team prevailed 71-64 over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday evening at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Xavier Fearon led the Badgers in scoring, notching 16 points on a lethal 5-for-7 shooting from three. Isaiah Bujdoso and Michael Matas provided valuable work on the glass, recording a team-high seven rebounds each. The Badgers got off to a hot start, leading at the end of the first quarter 20-13 on the back of McKenna's early eight points. Following a back-and-forth second frame, Brock ended the first half up 36-29, maintaining a seven-point advantage. The third quarter was a similarly tight affair, with the Badgers entering the fourth on top 53-42. This is a lead they would not relinquish down the stretch as they claimed their second victory of the weekend. Contributions from Brock's second unit was key in the victory as they registered 23 bench points compared to Laurentian's 13.Â
The Badgers head north to Thunder Bay, Ont., to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse . The opening contest is set for Friday, Jan. 16, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m., before the two teams meet again on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.

The Brock women's hockey team picked up an exciting defensive 1-0 shootout victory over the York Lions on Friday at Canlan Ice Sports in Toronto. Megan Thiessen was a force in net, stopping all 20 shots she faced as well as all three shootout attempts to pick up her first shutout of the season. Jenna Duarte was the only player in the contest to find the back of the net, burying the game-winning shootout goal in the second round. 60 minutes of scoreless hockey took the game to three-on-three overtime, but neither team was able to decide it in the extra frame. There were five minor penalties in the contest, with Brock's Randyll Strongman and Ava Fisher taking one each and Nipissing taking three. Both teams played defensive style hockey as all five penalties were killed off. Brock led the shot department 22-20, but neither goalie allowed any scores in regulation or in overtime.

The Badgers carried over momentum from Friday's shootout victory, this time besting the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-2 on Saturday evening at Varsity Arena. It was a balanced effort as Rayna Franklin, Kaedyn Gomes, Taylor Wolsey and Avery Diljee all netted goals in the contest, with Franklin and Gomes adding an assist each. Thiessen was strong in the crease once again, turning away 28 of her 30 shots faced. Franklin opened the scoring for the Badgers in the first period and Gomes doubled up for Brock in the second. After Toronto cut the lead to one late in the second, Wolsey scored just 35 seconds later to bring the score to 3-1. Toronto's Abby Whitworth scored on the power play early in the third period, but Thiessen and the Badgers shut the door for the remainder of the game. Diljee scored an empty-netter to ice the game with 11 seconds remaining, and Brock held on for their third consecutive victory. The two teams combined for 11 penalties, with Brock taking six to Toronto's five.
Up next, Brock will look to extend their win streak to four as they play host to the Western Mustangs on Friday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. at Canada Games Park for their Pink in the Rink game, supporting the larger Shoot for the Cure campaign. The nationwide U SPORTS initiative helps raise awareness of and money for breast cancer research. Following this game, they will host the Nipissing Lakers for a clash at Canada Games Park on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.Â

On Friday night, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team came back in a 3-2 overtime win against the Windsor Lancers at Canada Games Park. Eric Barnard recorded an assist and two goals in the contest including the game winner in overtime, while Jonah Boria also found the back of the net. Ben Bonisteel got the start as goaltender and held down home ice, stopping 29 of 31 shots from Windsor. Brock began the scoring 12 minutes through the first period off of a rocket shot from Boria at the point. This lead would be relinquished three minutes later when Windsor tied the game on the power play with five minutes left in the opening frame. The Lancers continued this momentum as early in the second period they broke the tie and took a 2-1 lead. The game remained this way for a full period until five minutes passed through the third when Barnard scored his first of the night, tying the game at two. This tie lasted for the rest of regulation before the game headed into overtime. Five minutes into the extra frame, Barnard, a first-year forward, cut through the slot and buried his second of the night, winning the game for the Badgers on home ice. Brock's penalty killing was the key to closing this game out as after conceding their first goal shorthanded, they then killed two straight third-period penalties before taking the game to overtime.

Playing their second game in as many days, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 contest to the Guelph Gryphons in overtime. Boria, Barnard, Colby Saganiuk and Tai York each found the back of the net, with Barnard scoring his third goal in two games. After the Gryphons scored the first two goals of the contest within the first 12 minutes of the game, a late first period goal from Boria cut the Gryphons' lead to 2-1. An early second-period penalty by the Gryphons gave the Badgers a key advantage, which they capitalized on when Barnard tied the game at two on the power play. Guelph responded quickly, scoring two more goals within 11 minutes to give themselves a 4-2 lead. After a slow start to the third period, the Badgers made a late surge. Saganiuk found the back of the net 14 minutes into the third to cut the lead to one. Minutes later, York burried the tying goal, sending the game to overtime. After giving up a 4-2 lead in the third, the Gryphons scored the winner early into overtime to take the game. Both teams netted one power-play goal, while the Gryphons remained more disciplined committing four penalties to the Badgers' five.
Next, the Badgers head to Toronto on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at Canlan Ice Sports to face the York Lions.Â
