The Brock Badgers men's baseball team will play for gold in the 2026 OUA Baseball Championship on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Â
The Badgers bats could not be cooled down, as they dismantled the OUA East No. 1 seed Toronto Varsity Blues 18-1 via mercy rule after four innings of play at Welland Stadium in Welland, Ont.
Â
Following a scoreless first inning, the Badgers put up a crooked number in the second frame, plating five runs to put the hosts in the driver's seat early on.
Â
After adding another two runs in the third inning, Brock rallied to put up 11 runs in what would end up being the final inning of the game, to secure a dominant victory over the defending OUA champions.
Â
All nine Badgers in the starting lineup reached base at least once in the winning effort, with right fielder
Josh Frazer leading Brock with three hits.
Â
Fifth-year third baseman
Brady Campbell led the team with 3 RBI, clubbing one of the Badgers four extra-base hits, while
Flynn Matheson followed up on his two-homer game against Queen's by knocking in a run himself.
Â
On the mound,
Charlie Hughes needed just 55 pitches to get through his four innings of work and record the victory, limiting the dangerous Toronto lineup to just a single earned run.
Â
The Badgers will now prepare for the final day of the OUA Championships on Sunday, Oct. 11., where they will face either the Laurier Golden Hawks or matchup once again with the Toronto Varsity Blues at 9:30 a.m. at Welland Stadium. Having remained undefeated throughout the tournament, Brock will need to be defeated twice to lose the championship, putting the Badgers one win away from capturing provincial gold.
