The Brock Badgers women's hockey team have tasted defeat for the first time this season.
Â
In their second game of a back-to-back on the road, the Badgers were defeated 6-3 by the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Â
First-year forward
Rachael Burt recorded a three-point game, while
Grace Campbell scored twice to cap off a three-goal weekend.
Â
The visitors were blitzed early in the contest, with the Gee-Gees firing in three goals in the opening period to put Brock in an early hole.
Â
Ottawa would add to their lead to begin the second frame, scoring two more goals within the opening six minutes of the period to take a 5-0 lead.
Â
Facing a steep deficit, the Badgers refused to back down. Burt got Brock on the board initially for her first goal as a Badger, burying an assist from
Parker Talbot on an odd-man rush.
Â
Campbell continued to chip away for Brock, scoring twice before the end of the second period, including a powerplay goal in the final three minutes of the frame.
Â
Down just two goals entering the final 20 minutes of play, the Badgers continued to push to try and capitalize on their momentum but were unable to find the back of the net again, with Ottawa adding an empty netter to put an end to Brock's spirited rally.
Â
Up next, the Badgers will begin a three-game homestand, starting with their home opener against the Nipissing Lakers at Canada Games Park on Friday, Oct. 23. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. and can be streamed on
OUA.tv.
