Lily Vandenhoek (Caledon, Ont.) of the women's rugby team and
Jack Tiessen (Leamington, Ont.) of the men's baseball team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 6.
Â
Beginning her sophomore season with the Badgers, Vandenhoek made her presence known against the Guelph Gryphons throughout their season opening clash. The flanker was consistently involved across the contest battling hard in the middle of the action and providing a strong presence for the Badgers on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Vandenhoek delivered numerous tackles to help disrupt the opposition's attack, holding off Guelph until the 21st minute, and constantly competing despite ultimately falling short.
Â
Tiessen, a fourth-year pitcher, helped lead the men's baseball team to an undefeated weekend as the Badgers swept their doubleheaders against the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Windsor Lancers. Appearing in relief in two out of Brock's four games, Tiessen registered 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, holding opponents to just two hits and two walks, while racking up four strikeouts. The veteran's dependable arm was key to the Badgers ability to limit runs to open their 2026 campaign as they held their opponents to just 18 runs scored across the four games.
