KINGSTON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (23-8 overall, 14-5 OUA) split their doubleheader with the Queen's Gaels Saturday on the road winning Game One 2-0 and dropping Game Two by the score of 4-1.
In Game One, senior
Justin Ayles (Brampton, Ont.) went the distance throwing a one-hit shutout. He struck out six while walking three over seven innings of work. This was his third straight complete game. With the win, Ayles moves into a tie with Mark Nicholson for 3rd all-time in career victories with 16 and also surpassed Hall of Famers Rylan Pranger and Stefan Strecker for second all-time in career strikeouts with 140.
Sophomore
Ben Kirby (Burlington, Ont.) belted a solo shot to lead the Badgers.
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.),
Chris Anderi (Tecumseh, Ont.),
James Roffey (Guelph, Ont.) and
Wil Nicholson (Burlington, Ont.) all added singles.
In Game Two, it was flipped, as Queen's James Carter and Tyler Whealy combined for the one-hitter. Carter picked up the win throwing 5 2/3 innings allowing one run on one hit with five walks and two strikeouts. Whealy recorded the save going 1 1/3 with two strikeouts.
Brock starter
Luke Miller suffered the loss going 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. In relief,
Matt Watson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) threw 1 1/3 innings of shutout baseball striking out two.
Freshman
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.) added the Badgers lone hit.
Brock closes out the OUA regular season with five home contests at George Taylor Field. The Badgers host the McMaster Marauders on October 6th at 1 & 4 pm. They will also play host to the Ryerson Rams on October 11th and 12th.
