Home Opener
September 11th's game vs. the Waterloo Warriors marks the Badgers first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference home game of the season after a very successful start to the season on the road. Coming into their opening game, The Badgers are 3-0 in OUA action so far on the road. The game is at 7:00 PM @ George Taylor Field here in St.Catharines, admission to the game is FREE.
Veres coming off dominant performance
Badgers veteran (LHP)
Daniel Veres is coming off a start he'll never forget. Last Sunday, September 8th, Veres threw 5 innings of no-hit ball en-route to a Badgers mercy victory over the McMaster Marauders. Veres walked just 1 batter and struck out 6. This marks the Badgers first no-hitter since Mark Nicholson vs Western in 2003. Interestingly, Mark Nicholson's younger brother Will Nicholson was behind the plate for the Badgers at catcher on Sunday, adding a solo-HR. Veres was also named The Kemp Financial Top Male Athlete at Brock for the week ending September 8th.
Return of a Captain
On Thursday, September 12th the Badgers will play host to the Western Mustangs after the original game date was rained out from Saturday, September 7th. The game was not originally intended to be played at Brock but now marks the chance for a former Badger great to return to his old stomping grounds. Four year veteran Cam Graham recently graduated from Brock and chose to pursue his graduate studies at Western University, opting to continue his baseball career in rival colors. Graham posted a .340 AVG, 6 HR, 72 RBI and 10 SB during his 4 year career with the Badgers.
Program Success: Closing in on 450 Victories
With 2 more wins over the weekend, the Badgers improved to 3-0 in the OUA and 8-1 overall to start the 2013 season. The team now holds a 439-221-5 record over the history of the program, and now sit just 11 wins shy of 450 all time.
Waterloo Player to Watch
Catcher Ben Tinklin was one of Waterloo's stand out players last season, batting .455 with 3 HR and 13 RBI over 13 games for the Warriors in 2012, Tinklin owns a .343 AVG with 6 HR and 30 RBI over 31 games since 2011 and should continue to be a source of reliable production for the Warriors this season.
Western Player to Watch
Another Catcher, Cam Graham is the Mustangs highlight addition of the off-season, coming off an outstanding career at Brock, Graham will look to re-create the numbers he posted in 2012 when he bat .424 posting 3 HR and 35 RBI over 92 at-bats. Graham is a top candidate for the OUA Hitter of the Year after falling just short of Guelph's Justin Interisano last season.
