ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (16-5 overall, 11-4 OUA) was unable to make a comeback against the Guelph Gryphons (9-4 OUA), losing 5-4 on Wednesday night at George Taylor Field.
Brock started with an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, holding onto it for a majority of the game until Guelph started to rally scoring four runs in the top of the 6th.
Freshman
Luke Miller (Newmarket, Ont.) pitched five complete innings allowing four runs and 10 hits, while striking out five players.
Brendan Ellingham (Hamilton, Ont.) came in as a relief pitcher, only to be relieved himself by
Mark McIntyre (Oakville, Ont.) within the same inning. After McIntyre struckout one player and allowed one run,
Ryan Beckett (Midland, Ont.) came in to finish the game stiking out two players, and allowing only one hit.
Sophomone
Koddi Quick (Leamington, Ont.) led the Badgers going 2-for-3 with a double.
James Roffey (Guelph, Ont.)Â (1-for-4, RBI),
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.) (1-for-4),
Dan Nicoletta (Newmarket, Ont.) (1-for-3) and
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.) (1-for-1) all added base hits in the loss.
The Badgers will be on the road for three straight doubleheaders versus Durham (Sept. 26), Waterloo (Sept. 28) and Mercyhurst (Sept. 29).
