WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (20-5 overall. 13-4 OUA) reached a program milestone Saturday as they won their 450th game in the program's history with a sweep over the Waterloo Warriors (8-3, 6-0). They also reached the 20 win mark for the 14th season in the 19-year history.
In Game One, starter
Paul McKenna (Oakville, Ont.) threw six strong innings allowing three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts for his league leading four victory.Â
Leading the Badgers 11-hit attack was
Ricky Ferri (St. Catharines, Ont.) who went 3-for-4 wth two RBI.
James Roffey (Guelph, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
Phil Steer (Toronto, Ont.) added two RBI and two runs scored while going 1-for-2. Rounding out the Brock offense were
Ben Kirby (Burlington, Ont.) (1-for-4, RBI),
Koddi Quick (Leamington, Ont.) (1-for-1),
Wil Nicholson (Burlington, Ont.) (1-for-2, 2R) and
Dan Nicoletta (Newmarket, Ont.) (1-for-3, 2R).
In Game Two, senior
Justin Ayles (Brampton, Ont.) went the distance throwing a two-hit shutout while striking out five for his third victory of the regular season. Wth the win, Ayles moved into a tie with Chris Ebel for 4th all-time in career victories with 15 and 4th all-time in career innings pitched (145) surpassing Mark Nicholson. He is now just three strikeouts shy of surpassing Hall of Famers Rylan Pranger and Stefan Strecker for second all-time in career strikeouts in the Brock record books.
Leading the offense was
Jordan Grant (Mississauga, Ont.) who was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Quick went 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Adding single hits were
Chris Anderi (Tecumseh, Ont.),
Justin Gideon (Pickering, Ont.), Steer, Ferri, Roffey and Kirby.
The Badgers next action is Sunday when they travel across the border to take on the Mercyhurst Lakers in Erie, PA.Â
