DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Brock's women's soccer team has a record of 0-0-2 thanks to a stellar defensive corps that has kept opponents off the scoreboard all season. In the season opener against UOIT, the Badgers midfield helped control the Ridgebacks, and at York on Monday, it was the defense that stole the show. During the pre-season, Brock allowed only three goals in four matches.
ROOKIE KEEPERS HAVING '0-WEEK'
The two goalkeepers that Brock women's head coach
John Durish has put on the pitch this season,
Jenna Vasiliaskas and
Alexa Jackman, each have a shutout to their name. Jackman pushed aside eight shots from UOIT, while Vasiliaskas followed with an eight-save effort against York. Brock was outshot 12-2 on Monday, but still drew the Lions 0-0, a testament to how solid their defense is this season.
SOMETHING ABOUT THE HAWKS
Brock's men's soccer team (0-1-1) has not won an OUA match since playing Laurier on October 2nd last season, where they took down the Golden Hawks 2-1. The Badgers are looking to rebound from an 8-0 loss at the hands of York on Labour Day, in a contest that saw both
Jake Sweetzer and
Noah Mar get time in net.Â
BACK ON THE SCOREBOARD
Erik Van Wissen has Brock's lone goal this season, a tally that came in the 32nd minute of the season opener at UOIT. During their exhibition schedule, the Badgers squad scored eight goals in three matches, and will look to regain that offensive touch this evening against Laurier.
HOME SWEET HOME
After tonight's games, both teams will return home to start a five-game homestand. The home openers take place September 8th, with the women kicking off at 1:00 PM and the men at 3:15 against the McMaster Marauders. During the same homestand, the Badgers will take to the field against Western on Homecoming, which is September 21st.
