GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-10 OUA West) dropped a 99–84 decision to the University of Guelph Gryphons (3-9 OUA West) Saturday afternoon.
Brock trailed by just one at the half 43-42. Midway through the third quarter the Gryphons would put together a 9-3 run and led by seven after 30 minutes 67-60.
Late in the fourth quarter Guelph would extend their lead to 12. In the final two minutes they knocked down 10 of 16 free throws on route to the 15-point victory.
Leading the Badgers was freshman standout
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who recorded a career high 31 points and 21 rebounds for his 12th double double of the season.
Also in double figures was senior
Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) who recorded 26 points and three rebounds. Junior
Jay Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) and senior
Rashad Morley (Nassau) both chipped in with nine points each in the loss.
Guelph had six players in double figures led by Trevor Thompson who recorded 16 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Grant and Michel Clark both contributed with 15 points each. Clark also pulled down 12 boards for the double double. Zachary Angus and Jack Beatty added 13 points a piece while Taylor Boers chipped in with 11 points.
For the game, the Badgers shot 30-for-63 (47.6%) from the field, 5-for-15 (33.3%) from beyond the arc and 19-for-31 (61.3%) from the free throw line. The Gryphons offense attempted 23 more field goals then the Badgers going 37-for-86 (43.0%) from the field. They were also 6-for-19 (31.6%) from three-point land and 19-for-31 (61.3%) from the charity stripe.
The Badgers next action is Wednesday, January 15th at 8 PM when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
