HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (17-1 OUA, 28-3 overall) defeated the Guelph Gryphons 4-2 in their first game at the OUA Baseball Championships being hosted by McMaster University.

The Badgers will now take on the Waterloo Warriors Saturday 2pm at Bernie Arbour Stadium. Waterloo opened Day One with a 2-0 record, defeating McMaster 12-4 and then defeated the defending OUA Champion Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 6-3.

Brock jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first. Phil Steer scored on a balk and 2014 OUA Top Hitter Justin Gideon continued to shine, belting a two run homerun to right. Guelph answered with two runs in the top of the 6th to make it a one run game 3-2. In the bottom of the 7th, Koddi Quick drove in Ricky Ferri with a RBI single to put Brock up 4-2.

2014 OUA Pitcher of the Year, Justin Ayles picked up the victory throwing eight strong innings. OUA first team all-star Phil Owen picked up the save.
