MONTREAL - The Brock University men's basketball team (4-3 overall, 0-0 OUA) dropped a 76–68 decision to the host McGill Redmen Saturday night at Love Competition Hall.
The Badgers jumped out to an early 20-4 lead in the opening five minutes and led 28-14 after one quarter. In the second quarter, the two teams scored a combined 17 points, as Brock held a 34-26 lead at the half.
In the third, McGill cut the lead to one twice, but it was the Badgers holding onto a one point lead after thirty minutes 54-53. The Redmen would get their first lead of the game 57-56 with 7:25 left in regulation and be in control the rest of the way on route to the eight-point victory.
Brock had four players in double figures, led by
Yusuf Ali who finished with 16 points and five assists. Zack Angelini contributed with 14 points going 3-for-7 from beyond the while
Johneil Simpson and
Matt Marshall finished with 13 and 11 points respectively.
McGill was led by Jenning Leung who recorded 17 points and for assists while Michael Peterkin, Francois Bourque and Vincent Dufort chipped in with 16, 13 and 10 points respectively.
For the game, Brock shot 39.4% (23-for-70) from the floor, 32.9% (11-for-35) from beyond the arc and a dismal 57.9% (11-for-19) from the charity stripe. McGill went 26-for-62 (41.9%) from the field, 9-for-25 (36.0%) from downtown and 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the free throw line.
