
WINDSOR - The Brock University baseball team (32-3 overall, 17-1 OUA) defeated the St. Clair Saints by the score of 2-1, advancing to the OUA/OCAA Championship game on noon Sunday.
St. Clair jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game, before Brock answered with one run in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cody Quick and
Ryan Laird hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom of the fifth,
Phil Steer led off with a walk.
Ricky Ferri bunted steer to second with the sacrifice to put him in scoring position. The Badgers top hitter
Justin Gideon then drove in Steer with an RBI single to put the Badgers up 2-1.
Brock starter
Dylan Perego went seven complete innings for the victory, allowing just one run on six hits with one strikeout. The Badgers faced St. Clair ace Kyle Breitner who gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking three in the loss.
Leading the Badgers were
Justin Gideon and
Ben Kirby who both went 2-for-3. Quick, Laird,
Phil Steer,
Dan Nicoletta and
Wil Nicholson all chipped in with one hit each.
Brock will face St. Clair in the OUA/OCAA Championship game Sunday at 12 noon. St. Clair knocked off Durham in the game Saturday night to advance to the final.
