Brock men's curling captures bronze at OUA Championships

GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University men's curling team captured a bronze medal at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Curling championships hosted by University of Windsor at the historic Guelph Curling Club.

"Overall it was a successful weekend for the Brock curling program," said head coach Murray Etherington. "I was real happy for the men who made a step up from a year ago capturing bronze and were millimeters away from playing in the gold medal match. Going into the OUA's we knew it was going to be tough for the women because of our pool, but we accomplished our goal of making it to the playoff round with many good things to look forward to moving forward."

Men's team made up of skip Scott Brandon (Midland Ont.), lead Jamie Waters (Georgetown Ont.) vice Jonah Mondloch (St. Catharines, Ont.), second Blake Sandham (St. Catharines, Ont.) and spares Mike Idzenga (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Ryan Brown finished with an overall 6-2 record. In the round robin, they post a 5-1 record, highlighted by a 5-2 victory over the defending CIS champion Waterloo Warriors.

In the semifinals, Brock lost 7-6 an extra ends to the eventual OUA Champion Toronto Varsity Blues. In the OUA bronze medal match, the Badgers came from behind to defeat the Carleton Ravens by the score of 7-6. With the bronze, Brock advances to the CIS Championships being held in Regina March 19-23.

The women's team of skip Erin Macaulay (Whitby, Ont.), lead Christina Walters (Newmarket, Ont.), vice Shannon Tessier (Burlington Ont.) second Danielle Robinson (Dundas, Ont.) and spares Jessica Morris (Caledon, Ont.) and Brittany Quinton finished with an overall record of 4-4. They posted a 3-3 round robin record, defeated Western in the tie-breaker and eventually lost to Guelph in the OUA Quarter-Finals.
