ST. CATHARINES, Ont - The Brock men's soccer team (0-4-4 OUA) had to settle for a 2-2 tie with Algoma (0-6-1 OUA) on Saturday afternoon at home in front of a rowdy homecoming crowd.
The game got off to a slow start as both teams constantly battled for possesion in the midfield. Once the Badgers were able to secure possesion they managed to put pressure on the Algoma defence by attacking with speed along the wings in hopes of connecting on one of many crosses into the box. As the first half progessed Brock was able to mount a few dangerous counter attacks which led to the first goal of the game in the 31st minute from
Omar Hamadi.
The visitors did not back down after conceding the first goal, answering with  two of their own from Mohammed Aquarni ('35) and Joseph Iferi ('42) to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Brock started the second half strong with a few great chances that were stopped by Algoma's starting goalie Nick Palazzi, who had 11 saves on the game.
The Badgers continued put pressure on the Thunderbirds backline until striker
Sammy Orlando put one away during a scramble inside the Algoma penalty area to tie the game in the 68th minute. Algoma's only scoring opportunity of the second half was squandered when Brock goalie
Matthew Zaikos made a huge save to keep the game deadlocked 2-2.
The Badgers controlled the possesion and shots on net as the game was winding down, but in the end they could not manage to find a way past the Algoma keeper, which resulted in their fourth tie of the season.
The rematch between these two teams will take place tomorrow at 3:15 PM at Brock University, as both teams look for their first victory of the season. Â
