
GUELPH, Ont - The Brock men's soccer team (1-5-6 OUA) played to a 2-2 tie with the No. 10 ranked Guelph Gryphons (6-1-4 OUA), Sunday afternoon.
Bill Millar's side seems to be headed in the right direction with two strong matches this weekend, against highly-ranked opponents in York and Guelph. The Badgers were able to take a point away from their match on Sunday, putting them in 7th place in the West, just two points behind the next available spot.
In the first-half, there were multiple chances, with shots registered for both teams. Guelph would eventually find the games first goal, with a well struck penalty kick by Paul Manchisi in the 22nd minute. Brock would press as the half went on, but to no prevail, as the score was set at 1-0 in favour of the Gryphons after 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, Brock would find the games next tally with a goal off the boot of striker
Sammy Orlando ('55), his sixth of the campaign.
Jake Sweetzer was able to keep the Badgers in the contest with timely saves, keeping the score tied, at one, leading into the 60th minute. Despite a consistent defensive effort from Brock, the Gryphons were able to add another, in the 63rd minute, when a timely pass from Michael Bijman found the boot of Paris Roserie who would make no mistake putting the ball passed Sweetzer.
Ultimately, the Gryphons were unable to contain Brock's offensive attack as the Badgers would eventually find the score sheet again in the 74th minute when defender
Eric Bradey stepped up and finished with an impressive strike, tieing the game at two. The game would stay deadlocked for the remainder of play, omitting a score of 2-2 when the referree blew the final whistle.
In goal, Sweetzer made three saves, while Guelph keeper Benjamin Caranci turned aside just one, with both goalies earning a point for their respective sides.
Brock is set to return to action, Wednesday October 1st at 3:15pm, when they take on the McMaster Marauders.
