
HAMILTON - The Brock University baseball team (2-0 OUA, 8-0 overall) opened the 2014 OUA regular season with a two-game road sweep over the McMaster Marauders winning by scores of 15-1 and 15-0 at Bernie Arbour Stadium Sunday afternoon.
In Game One, the Badgers offense collected 15 runs on 16 hits led by senior
Chris Anderi who went 4-for-4 with four RBI.
Koddi Quick (3-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) andÂ
Blake Stepien (3-for-4, 2B, 3 runs, RBI) both contributed with three hits each.Â
Dan Nicoletta went 1-for-3 while driving in three runs and
Wil Nicholson was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Rounding out the Badgers offense in Game One were
Justin Gideon (1-for-4, 3B),Â
Ryan Laird (1-for-1, 2B) andÂ
Blair Gignac (1-for-2).
McMaster was led by Travis Flint who collected two of the six Marauders hits going 2-for-3.Â
On the hill, Brock southpaw
Daniel Veres threw five strong innings allowing no runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout for the victory. Dylan Perago and Matt Watson came on in relief and threw one inning each of shutout ball.
In Game Two, Brock senior ace
Justin Ayles got the start throwing four complete innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out three. With the victory Ayles moves into first all-time in career victories with 20.
Quick led the Badgers offense going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and game-high four RBI. He finished the day batting 5-for-7 (.714 AVG) with three runs and five RBI.
Phil Steer (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI),
Nick Anton (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Gignac (2-for-4, RBI) all contributed with two hits each. Rounding out the 13-hit Brock attack were

The Badgers return to action Wednesday at 5:00pm when they host the Windsor Lancers in a non-conference matchup at George Taylor Field.
